Abstract
En celle for elektrolytisk utvinning av aluminium omfatter en metallbasert anode (10) som inneholder i det minste det ene av nikkel, kobolt og jern. Anoden (10) kan være dekket med et påført eller et integrert hematittbasert lag og/eller et ceriumoksyfluoridbasert ytterste belegg. Cellen inneholder en fluoridholdig smeltet elektrolytt (5) ved en temperatur under 950 (C, hvor anoden (10) er nedsenket, og som består av: 6,5 til 11 vekt% oppløst alumina; 35 til 44 vekt% aluminiumfluorid; 38 til 46 vekt% natriumfluorid; 2 til 15 vekt% kaliumfluorid; 0 til 5 vekt% kalsiumfluorid; og 0 til 5 vekt% samlet av én eller flere ytterligere bestanddeler. En anodestang (14b) som inneholder nikkel og/eller jern kan brukes til å henge opp anoden (10) i elektrolytten (5), vendt mot en katode (21, 21a, 25) som har en aluminiumfuktbar overflate (20), særlig en drenert horisontal eller skråstilt overflate.
