Abstract

En metallisk anodestruktur for elektrolytisk utvinning av aluminium har initialt en ytre del av jernbasert legering med en aktiv anodeoverflate som hovedsakelig er metallisk og fri for keramiske forbindelser av metaller fra det metalliske. Anodestrukturen gjennomgår en kondisjoneringsbehandling som inkluderer: hovedsakelig å hindre at den hovedsakelig metallisk aktive overflate som er fri for den keramiske forbindelse reagerer med reaktive stoffer, særlig oksygen- og fluorstoffer, inntil nedsenking i en smeltet elektrolytt som inneholder oksygenioner; nedsenking av den metalliske anodestruktur med sin hovedsakelig metallisk aktive overflate som er fri for de keramiske forbindelser i den smeltede elektrolytt; og polarisering av den nedsenkede metalliske anodestruktur for på den metalliske anodestruktur å danne et tett og koherent integrert jernbasert oksidlag som er elektrokjemisk aktivt, for oksidasjon av oksygen, og som inhiberer diffusjon av oksygen mot den metalliske anodestruktur. Den metalliske anodestruktur kan dekkes med et midlertidig beskyttende medium, eksempelvis et beskyttende lag, som hindrer keramdannende reaksjoner ved den metalliske anodeoverflate, og som kan tas av før eller ved nedsenking i elektrolytten.
