Description
The present invention relates to an apparatus for rapid/continuous melting of explosives, comprising an introduction box for the unfused explosives, a receiving trough for the molten explosives below the introduction box and a melting grate which forms the bottom of the introduction box and has several parallel and spaced apart heating ribs which can be heated by a heating agent flowing inside the ribs and has a wedge-shaped cross-section with the tip pointing upwards.
Such a device serves for the first melting of solid explosives such as available in the form of granules, shells or small pieces, especially trinitrotoluene or mixtures of trinitrotoluene and hexogen, trinitrotoluene and ammonium nitrate or trinitrotoluene, hexogen and aluminium. The unmelted explosive falls from the feed box onto the melting grid, where upon contact with the heating ribs heated from the inside, it turns into melt and drips down through the slots between the spaced apart heating ribs into the receiving trough indirectly heated from the outside. From the receiving trough, the molten explosive can be processed either directly, e.g. when embedded in ammunition bodies, or subjected to further processing, e.g. in a melting and tempering boiler where the melting operation is continued while additional solid ingredients are added and the melt is brought to the exact casting temperature.
Alle smelteapparater for sprengstoff er underkastet strenge sikkerhetsbestemmelser. Således er temperaturforskjellen mellom oppvarmningsmiddelets temperatur og sprengstoffets smeltetemperatur begrenset til en relativt lav maksimal verdi på bare noen få All melting devices for explosives are subject to strict safety regulations. Thus the temperature difference between the temperature of the heating medium and the melting temperature of the explosive is limited to a relatively low maximum value of only a few
°C. For this reason, the melting performance of the initially mentioned apparatus cannot be increased simply by increasing the temperature of the heating medium in the heating ribs. Often, the melting performance is also limited by the fact that the formed melt must only have a certain
Apparatet arbeider imidlertid da ikke med den teoretisk maksimalt mulige smelteytelse. maximum temperature, which precisely in the case of explosive mixtures, which have a relatively low heat of fusion, can only be ensured by using a heating medium whose temperature is below the safety limit. However, the device then does not work with the theoretically maximum possible melting performance.
Til grunn for oppfinnelsen ligger den oppgave å utforme The invention is based on the task of designing
•Denne oppgave blir ifølge oppfinnelsen løst ved at den innbyrdes avstand mellom oppvarmningsribbene i smelteristen og dermed lysåpningen av spaltene mellom oppvarmningsribbene ef innstillbar. the initially mentioned melting device so that a specific temperature of the explosives forge can be maintained for the most diverse explosives to be processed, without reducing the maximum melting performance while complying with the safety regulations. •According to the invention, this task is solved by making the mutual distance between the heating ribs in the melting grid and thus the light opening of the slits between the heating ribs ef adjustable.
The device according to the invention makes it possible to walk away from
Denne andel smelter først i den allerede dannede sprengstoffsmelte a method of working where all the explosive that is fed to the melting grid constantly turns into melt at the heating combs and the temperature of the formed explosive melt is thus forced to be close to the temperature of the heating medium. On the contrary, with the apparatus according to the invention it is possible to lower the temperature of the forging simply by increasing the distance between the heating ribs. When the distance is increased, a certain proportion of unfused explosive material will fall through the gaps between the heating ribs. This proportion first melts in the already formed explosive melt
The greater the distance between the heating ribs, the greater the proportion of unfused explosive material flowing through and the lower the temperature of the explosive forge. The adjustability of the distance is thus a simple means of accurately setting a specific temperature of the explosive forge. Since in this connection no change in the temperature of the heating medium is necessary, the maximum possible melting performance is thus always retained with the apparatus according to the invention.
The size of the distance that must be set for a specific temperature of the melt depends mainly on the specific heat of fusion of the explosive present and on the shape and size in which the solid explosive exists. Coarser explosives naturally require a greater distance in order for a certain proportion to fall through between the heating ribs without melting on them.
A relatively low heat of fusion likewise requires a relatively large distance to compensate for the low heat of fusion by increasing the non-melted portion. In this way, for the explosives and explosive mixtures mentioned at the outset, and in compliance with the usual safety regulations, a mutual distance of the heating ribs of a certain number of millimeters is always obtained. The maximum adjustable* distance appropriately amounts to approx. 4 mm. Naturally, the distance with the device according to the invention should also be made so small that in certain cases it is not necessary to renounce the method of working where all the explosive is converted into melt on the heating ribs themselves. Together, in this way, a universal application of the device according to the invention is ensured for all types of explosives and for a wide range of desired or permissible temperatures at the explosives forge.
In a preferred embodiment of the new device, the change in the light opening of the slits between the heating ribs is achieved by neighboring ribs being adjustable in height in relation to each other. Along with the height setting, there is also a change in the slot width due to the wedge-shaped cross-section of the heating ribs. Appropriately, the heating ribs for height adjustment have end pins that engage with inclined screens in a common horizontally displaceable adjustment rod such as, for example. can be set manually.
Det er tilstrekkelig om annenhver oppvarmningsribbe er innstillbar It is sufficient if every second heating rib is adjustable
i høyden. For oppnåelse av en særlig lav byggehøyde av smelteristen vil man imidlertid fortrinnsvis benytte en høydeinnstilling av alle oppvarmningsribber, nærmere bestemt i motsatte retninger for to naboribber. in height. In order to achieve a particularly low construction height of the melting grate, however, a height setting of all heating ribs will preferably be used, more specifically in opposite directions for two neighboring ribs.
In another embodiment, the change in slot width is achieved by allowing the heating ribs to be displaced relative to each other in the horizontal direction, which is best achieved by means of a scissor grid to which the heating ribs are connected.
For the achievement of high melting performances it has been shown that
Det er også mulig å forbinde innførings-kassen med en på avstand anordnet forrådssilo via et tilførselsrør. the pressure with which the solid explosive rests on the inclined side surfaces of the heating ribs should be as great as possible. This is achieved in the simplest possible way as a result of the weight of the unfused explosive itself, and for this purpose the introduction box is filled to a correspondingly high level. If the building height of the introduction box is not sufficient, it can go directly above into a storage silo for explosives. It is also possible to connect the introduction box with a remotely arranged storage silo via a supply pipe.
Dermed kan også de oppstående damper etc. suges bort, selv Alternatively or in addition, an increase in pressure against the heating ribs can be achieved by subjecting the underside of the melting grid to a negative pressure, the receiving trough being only open at the melting grid and having a connection for connection to a source of negative pressure. In this way, the rising vapors etc. can also be sucked away, themselves
om man naturligvis vil velge undertrykket høyere enn hva som ville ha vært tilfelle dersom bare dampene skulle suges bort. if one naturally wants to choose the negative pressure higher than what would have been the case if only the vapors were to be sucked away.
Endelig er det til trykkøkning også mulig i innføringskassen å anvende et stempel som ytterligere belaster det ikke-smeltede Finally, to increase the pressure, it is also possible to use a piston in the feed box which further loads the non-melted
sprengstoff.. explosives..
The heating ribs, especially at the tips or tops facing the unfused explosive, are prone to being cooled to below the melting temperature of the explosive with the unpleasant consequence that explosive coating is formed here. This phenomenon can be effectively counteracted by rounding the heating ribs at the tips. In addition, the heating ribs can be profiled at least on the wedge-shaped side surfaces to increase the effective surface and thus the heat transfer, where a profile is suitably chosen which does not provide any flow resistance for the downward-flowing explosive.
In the following, the invention will be described with further advantageous details with reference to a schematically shown embodiment example.

The apparatus shown in the figure for rapid continuous melting of explosives is entirely made of stainless steel. It comprises a square introduction box 1 for unfused explosives and below this a likewise square receiving trough 2 for the molten explosives. About half the height of the introduction box 1 projects down into the receiving trough, which in turn is tightly connected to the outside of the introduction box 1 by an inclined upper edge 3. A cover 4 closes the introduction box. The receiving trough 2 has an inclined bottom 5 with a connecting flange 6 at the lowest point. Here, a heated drain nozzle 7 can be placed together with a drain valve 8 (only shown in Fig. 2) for the molten explosive. For indirect heating of the molten explosive, the receiving trough 2 is surrounded by a heating coil 9 for the circulation of a heating agent, e.g. water, which is supplied through a
tilførselsrør 10 og føres ut gjennom et avløpsrør 11. supply pipe 10 and is led out through a drain pipe 11.
The bottom of the introduction box 1 is formed by a melting grate 20 which comprises several mutually parallel and spaced apart horizontal heating ribs 21. Each of the mutually equal heating ribs 21 is designed as a closed tube which has a wedge-shaped cross-section with an upwardly facing rounded tip 22. Wedge -the angle at the tip 22 is acute, and the angle is e.g. 30°. All heating ribs are tightly closed at both ends by means of a rectangular end plate 23. In the end plate 23, two studs 24, 25 are welded vertically above each other, which protrude in the longitudinal direction of the heating ribs and engage in a manner not shown in detail with vertical guide slots in introduction box 1. The dimensions of the end plates 23 are chosen so that they abut one another in the transverse direction of the heating ribs and thus form a continuous end-direction limitation of the melting grate 20. In this connection, however, as a result of the guidance on the pins 24 and 25, each heating rib has a limited setting option in the height, i.e. vertical.
When all heating ribs are at the same level, they lie at the widest point of the cross-section, which is as wide as the end plates 24, laterally against each other, so that there is practically no gap between the heating ribs. As a result of the wedge-shaped cross-section of the heating elements, there can however be gaps between them, and these gaps can be increased in width by adjusting neighboring heating ribs in height in relation to each other as shown in fig. 3. This takes place in such a way that every other heating element 21' is raised from an average level which is the same for all heating elements 21, while the other intermediate heating elements 21" are lowered. For this purpose, a horizontally displaceable setting rod 26 which lies between the end plates 23 serves and the guide for the pins 25 in the insertion box and has pin slots or screens 27" or 27" which slopes in opposite directions, and through which the pins 25 protrude. Fig. 3 shows the entire device in the position where the heating ribs 21" have been raised to the highest position by means of the guides 27', while the heating ribs 21" have been lowered to the lowest position with the help of the slides 27". The gap 28 formed in this way between the heating ribs will then have its largest width of approx. 4 mm.
An adjustment rod is also located on the other side of the heating ribs, not shown in the drawing. A rod mechanism 29 serves for common horizontal displacement of both setting rods. The rod mechanism 29 includes a locking device 30 with a number of locking styles.
The heating ribs 21 are heated internally by a heating means, e.g. water, which is supplied via an external collector pipe 31 which extends across the heating ribs and is carried away through a similar collector pipe 32 on the other side of the apparatus. Both collecting pipes 31 and 32 have branch pipes 33 which extend into the interior of the apparatus and are connected to end connections 34 on the heating elements via short, flexible pieces of hose (not shown), so that the heating elements can flow through the heating medium in the longitudinal direction.
During operation, unfused explosive is filled into the introduction box 1, where it falls onto the melting grate 20 and at the heating ribs 21 immediately turns into liquid melt that flows through the slits 28 and down into the heated receiving trough 2. If the distance between the heating ribs resp. . the width of the slits 28 is increased by means of the rod mechanism 29, part of the explosive will pass through the slits 28 without being melted and will first be melted in the explosive melt in the receiving trough, which leads to a lower temperature of the explosive forge. The desired temperature can be regulated by setting the slot width without changing the temperature of the heating medium in the heating ribs.
1. The higher the layer of unfused explosives that rests on the melting grid, the higher the melting performance, as the solid explosive due to the pressure of the overlying mass is pressed into the liquid film on the melting grid, thereby improving the heat transfer. This effect can be increased by applying a negative pressure under the melting grid 20, and for this purpose the receiving trough, which is only open to the melting grid, can be provided at the edge 3 with a connecting piece 15 for a source of negative pressure. Alternatively, the unfused explosive can be loaded into the introduction box by means of a piston 16 which is shown dashed in fig. 1.
