Abstract
Leketøybyggekloss.Toy building block.
Description
The invention relates to a hollow toy building block which is hollow, with two end faces and a number of side walls connecting the end faces, where at least one side wall is provided with an image and at least one other side wall is provided with a letter.
It is believed that toy building blocks have already been used in prehistoric times. Egyptian children thus used small blocks of stone to imitate the adults' enormous constructions of large stones. It is also known that in the Victorian period toy building blocks were used to teach religious history. These bricks were each equipped with a part of an image, so that a number of bricks together formed the whole image illustrating a religious event.
Fra det 19. århundre kjennes hule byggeklosser, hvis hulrom er dekket med et gjennomsiktig materiale, f.eks. glass, From the 19th century, hollow building blocks are known, the cavities of which are covered with a transparent material, e.g. glass,
Disse kjente byggeklosser adskiller seg dog vesentlig fra byggeklossen ifølge oppfinnelsen, hvis særtrekk fremgår av kravene. and in which decorative objects were placed that could be seen through the glass. From recent times, various hollow building blocks are known which are preferably used as toys, but some of which are intended for teaching use, cf. e.g. the US patents 2,440,205, 2,492,922 and 3,049,814. These known building blocks, however, differ significantly from the building block according to the invention, whose distinctive features appear in the claims.
According to the invention, the building block can be opened along a plane between at least two opposite side edges or side walls to form at least two polyhedral, preferably prismatic, sections. As the brick can be opened in this way, the dividing or opening lines of the edges are hidden, where the plane cuts the edges of the prism or another polyhedron, so that the brick has an attractive appearance.
When the block is a right-angled prism, it can be made of plastic by molding individual prismatic sections which are hinged together along one of the side edges. When casting such a brick, the finished brick can be easily removed from the mold, as the brick is without undercuts.
On one outer surface of the brick there is an image and/or a sign or letter that refers to an object placed in the brick. In the block, there can e.g. there is a figure representing a dog and on one of the outer surfaces of the blocks there can be a picture of a dog, the word "dog" and the letter "H". A child who plays with the brick will then learn the connection between the object in the brick, the picture, the word and the letter on the outside of the brick.
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, whose fig. 1 shows in perspective an open building block according to the invention, fig. 2 shows the same with the block turned 180° and fig. 3 shows in perspective one building block according to the invention in another embodiment, where the block forms a six-sided body.
The block according to the invention, which can have any polyhedral shape with at least one end face and a number of connecting side walls, is divided along a plane through at least two opposite side walls, so that two secondary polyhedral sections are formed which are hinged to each other along a line of intersection between the dividing plane and an end face or a side wall; the block can thereby be opened and closed by the two secondary sections swinging together around the hinge. The block can similarly be divided by more than one plane, as the sections thus formed are attached to each other with more than one hinge. Each of the secondary sections may be provided with means for holding the sections in their closed position. When a prismatic block is used, the dividing line can run through the side edges of the block and thus be hidden by these edges.
Fig. 1 and 2 show, as an example, a block according to the invention in the form of a six-sided, cubic block 10 with two end surfaces 21 and 22 and side walls 17, 18, 19 and 20. The edges between the side walls are denoted by 25, 26 , 27 and 28. The block is divided along a plane through two opposite side edges to form two prismatic sections 11 and 12. One section 11 is bounded by secondary end surfaces 13 and 14, side walls 17 and 18 and the side 24. another section 12 is similarly limited by secondary end surfaces 15 and 16, side walls 19 and 20 and the side 29. One of the side edges between the side 24 and a side wall is connected via a hinge 23 to the side edge between the side 29 and a side wall, thus that the two secondary sections 11 and 12 can be opened by swinging mutually around the hinge. Each of the two secondary sections can be equipped with means to hold the two sections together in the closed position.
As shown, the brick has a picture and a letter or a sign on the outside, all of which allude to the object placed in the brick. On the end surface 20, according to fig. 1 the letter "D" which stands for the English word "dog", and according to fig. 2, the block's other end surface has an image of a dog. Finally, 31 shows a figure representing a dog being placed in the block. The block will thus be able to be used when teaching children. Preferably there is a set of bricks, one for each of the letters of the alphabet, so that each brick has its own letter and a picture of e.g. an animal, whose name begins with the letter in question and each of which contains a figure representing the animal in question. Such a set will include 29 bricks and 29 figures. The child will then first learn to find out which animals belong in the different blocks and then learn to connect the letter on each block with the animal in question. The use of letters and animals is only mentioned as an example, as the blocks can be used as a teaching aid in many other ways.
The block can be made of any suitable material, preferably of elastic, form-retaining plastic.
