Description
Fremgangsmåte til fremstilling av kondensasjons-
produkter av fenoler og aceteddiksyreestere.
Det er fra tysk utlegningsskrift nr. 1.09 3.377 kjent
at man kan gjennomføre kondensasjonen av fenol med levulinsyre ved temperaturer mellom HO til 80°C med 37-40%-ig saltsyre som katalysator.
Det viser seg imidlertid at man ikke kan gjennomføre denne fremgangsmåte ved kondensasjonen av aceteddiksyreestere med fenoler i nærvær av saltsyre ved de ovennevnte temperaturer, da aceteddiksyreesteren forsåpes til aceteddiksyre og alkohol ved denne temperatur. Aceteddiksyren nedbrytes med en gang i aceton og karbondioksyd, og acetonet i nærvær av hydrogenklorid kondenserer med fenoler. Det oppstår derved derivater av bis-(4-hydroksy-fenyl)-dimetylmetan.
Fra US-patent nr. 3.427.345 er det kjent kondensasjon av fenoler med levulinsyreestere i nærvær av gassformet hydrogenklorid ved temperaturer mellom- Q°C og værelsetemperatur, idet det som katalysator ble anvendt merkaptoeddiksyre.
Som sammenligningsforsøk har vist, vil man ved over-føring av denne arbeidsmåte til aceteddiksyreestere imidlertid få meget dårlige resultater. Ved anvendelse av etylmerkaptan ifølge oppfinnelsen i stedet for merkaptoeddiksyre, fåes imidlertid utbytter på over 80%.
Fra tysk patent nr. 1.213.852 er det kjent kondensasjonen av fenol med levulinsyre i nærvær av saltsyre som konden-sasjonsmiddel og metylmerkaptan som katalysator. I henhold til dette patent fremgår det uttrykkelig at metylmerkaptan har en overraskende høy spesifisitet for reaksjonen, mens etylmerkaptan som neste ledd i den homologe rekke derimot ikke fører til noen forbedring. Andre merkaptoforbindelser som merkaptoeddiksyre eller merkaptopropionsyre rekker ikke opp til virkningen av metylmerkaptan.
Sammenligningsforsøk har imidlertid vist at nøyaktig det motsatte er tilfelle ved kondensasjonen av aceteddiksyreestere o^ fenoler, idet her etylmerkaptan er vesentlig mer virksom enn metylmerkaptan, hvilket er meget overraskende.
Norsk patentsøknad nr.392j5/70 vedrører
en fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av kondensasjonsprodukter av fenoler og polyaceteddiksyreestere.
Det ble overraskende funnet at man kan hindre forsåpninc av aceteddiksyreesteren når man gjennomfører kondensasjonen ved lav temperatur. Da kondensasjonen imidlertid under disse betingel-ser forløper meget langsomt, tilsettes spesielt etylmerkaptan som katalysator.
Oppfinnelsens gjenstand er nå en fremgangsmåte til fremstilling av kondensasjonsprodukter av fenoler med den generelle formel I og aceteddiksyreestere med den generelle formel II
hvor R-^ og R2 betyr hydrogenatomer, like eller forskjellige alkyl-rester med 1 til 4 karbonatomer, R3 betyr en alkylrest med 1 til 31 karbonatomer, en allylrest, en cykloheksyl-, aryl eller aralkylrest, hvor kondensasjonen gjennomføres i nærvær av gassformet hydrogenklorid ved en temperatur fra -10 til +15°C og i nærvær av etylmerkaptan, i mengder fra 0,05 til 0,5 vektprosent, referert til anvendt aceteddiksyreester.
Som fenoler som anvendes til kondensasjonen skal det f.eks. nevnes: fenol, o-kresol, 2-isopropyl, 2-sek.butyl-, 2-tert.-butyl-, 2-metyl-4-sek.butyl-, 2-metyl-4-tert.butyl-, 2,6-dimetyl-og 2 ,6-diisopropylferiol.
Aceteddiksyreesterens fremstilling foregår ved til-leiring av diketen til alkoholene. Som katalysatorer anvendes . basiske forbindelser som f.eks. trietylamin. Høytsmeltende alkoholer oppløses i overfor diketen inerte oppløsningsmidler og deretter tilleires diketen.
Alkoholer egnet for fremstilling av aceteddiksyreestere er f.eks. metanol, etanol, propanol, isopropanol, butanoler, heksyl-alkoholer, nonylalkoholer, dodekanoler, myristylalkohol, cetyl-alkohol, stearylalkohol, myrizylalkohol, cykloheksanol, benzyl-alkohol, fenyletylalkohol og allylalkohol. For fremstillingen av aromatiske aceteddiksyreestere kan det f.eks. anvendes fenol eller naftol.
Fremgangsmåten ifølge oppfinnelsen gjennomføres således at man pr. acetoacetylgruppe anvender 2 eller flere molekyler fenoler og kondenserer i nærvær av tørr hydrogenkloridgass, med 0,05-0,5 vektprosent etylmerkaptan referert til anvendt aceteddiksyreester, ved -10 til +15°C, fortrinnsvis ved temperaturer på rundt 10°C. Det er også mulig å arbeide under et hydrogenklorid-overtrykk på 1-3 atm., en metode som fortrinnsvis anvendes ved teknisk produksjon. Vesentlig er den nøye overholdelse av tem-peraturen. Allerede ved 20°C inntrer det en delvis forsåpning av aceteddiksyreesteren. Utbyttene ligger derfor betraktelig lavere ved høyere temperaturer. På grunn av den lave kondensasjonstemperatur er det under tiden nødvendig å arbeide med oppløs-nings-midler som metylenklorid, toluen og anisol.
Etter avsluttet kondensasjon fjernes det oppløste hydrogenklorid, vann og merkaptan under vannstrålepumpevakuum mellom 10 og 20°C. Deretter fjerner man•det overskytende eller ikke omsatte fenol ved vakuumdestillering ved 100-180°C og ca. 1 torr. Hvis residuet er harpiks lignende natur, omkrystalliseres det eller utfelles fra oppløsningen ved tiletning av et polart oppløsningsmidde1.
De omtalte bisfenolkarboksylsyreestere finner mange anvendelser. De kan f.eks. finne anvendelse for stabilisering av kunststoffer, som fungicide eller baktericide midler eller til fremstilling av lakkharpikser.
Nedenstående tabell viser brytningsindekser ved 20°C av aceteddiksyreestere som ble anvendt i eksemplene 1 til 8:
Eksempel 1.
3, 3- bis( 4- hydroksy- 3- tert. butyl- fenyl) butansyre- isopropylester.
I en 4-halset kolbe som er utstyrt med røreverk, tilbakeløpskjøler, termometer og gassinnføringsrør has 300 g o-t.butylfenol (2 mol), 144 g aceteddiksyreisopropylester (1 mol)
og 0,72 g etylmerkaptan. Reaksjonsblandingen avkjøles til 10°C og mettes ved denne temperatur under omrøring med hydrogenklorid. Kondensasjonen forløper svakt eksoterm. Etter ca. 10 timers konden-
sasjonstid tilsettes 1 liter toluen og det dannede kondensasjons-vann avdestilleres azeotropt. Etter toluenoppløsningens avkjøling faller sluttproduktet ut som krystallinsk hvitt stoff.
Utbytte: 358 g (= 84% referert til anvendt aceteddikester).
Smp.: 176°C.

Opparbeidelse analogt med eksempel 1.
Utbytte: 192 g (45% referert til anvendt aceteddiksyreester). Smp.: 170°C.
Eksempel 2.
3, 3- bis( 4- hydroksy- 3- metyl- fenyl)- butansyre- n- butylester.
2160 g o-kresol (20 mol), 760 g aceteddiksyre-n-buty1-ester (5 mol) og 0,76 g etylmerkaptan has i den ovenfor omtalte apparatur, avkjøles til 10°C og mettes med hydrogenkloridgass. Etter ca. 20 timers kondensasjonstid ved 10°C avdestilleres ved hjelp av vannstrålepumpe saltsyre og o-kresol. Badets temperatur økes derved langsomt fra 20°C til 150°C. Det etter avdestillering dannede harpikslignende produkt omkrystalliseres i 3 liter xylen under tilsetning av noe kiselgur.
Utbytte: 1220 g (68% referert til anvendt aceteddiksyre-n-butylester).
Smp.: 116°C

funnet: C 73,91 H7,9%
beregnet: C 74,1% H 7,9%
Eksempel 3.
3, 3- bis( 4- hydroksy- 3- tert■ buty1- fenyl) butansyre- allylester.
1200 g o-tert.butylfenol (8 mol), 568 g aceteddiksyre-allylester (4 mol) og 2,8 g etylmerkaptan has i den i eksempel 1
omtalte apparatur, avkjøles til 10°C og mettes med hydrogenkloridgass. Kondensasjonstiden er 24 timer, kondensasjonstemperaturen på 10°C overskrides ikke. For å fjerne det ved kondensasjonen dannede vann tilsettes toluen og vannet avdestilleres azeotropt.
Ved avkjøling utfelles det fra toluen 3,3-bis(4-hydroksy-3-t.-butylfenyl)-butansyreallylester som hvit, krystallinsk forbindelse. Utbytte: 1050 g (62% referert til anvendt aceteddiksyreester)

Eksempel 4.
3, 3- bis( 4- hydroksy- 3- t. buty1- fenyl)- butansyre- cykloheksylester.
I en 4-halset kolbe blandes 300 g o-tert.butylfenol
(2 mol), 184 g aceteddiksyrecykloheksylester (1 mol) og 0,9 g etylmerkaptan og mettes ved 10°C med hydrogenkloridgass. Etter 24 timers kondensasjonstid ved 5-10°C tilsettes toluen og konden-sas j onsvannet avdestilleres azeotropt. Ved avkjøling faller det fra toluenet ut 3 , 3-bis ( 4-hydroksy-3-t.butylf enyDbutansyre-cykloheksylester krystallinsk.
Utbytte: 384 g (82% referert til anvendt aceteddikester)

Eksempel 5.
3, 3- bis( 4- hydroksy- 3, 5- dimetyl- fenyl) butansyre- dodecylester.
I en 4-halset kolbe blandes 122 g 2,6-dimetylfenol
(1 mol), 135 g aceteddiksyredodecylester (0,5 mol) og 0,7 g etylmerkaptan ved 10°C og tilføres i 8 timer hydrogenkloridgass. BLandingen omrøres i 24 timer ved 10°C. Deretter tilsettes
toluen og det dannede vann avdestilleres azeotropt. Etter av-kjøling faller det fra toluenoppløsningen krystallinsk ut 3,3-bis-(4-hydroksy-3,5-dimetylfenyl)-butansyre-dodecylester.
Utbytte: 176 g (71% referert til anvendt aceteddikester).

beregnet: C 77,4% H 9,6%
Eksempel 6. 3 , 3- bis ( 2- hydroksy- 3- metyl- 5- t. butyl- fenyDbutansyre- isopropylester.
I en blanding av 328 g 2-metyl-4-tert.butylfenol
(2 mol), 144 g aceteddiksyreisopropylester (1 mol) og 0,7 g etylmerkaptan innføres ved 5-10°C i ca. 10 timer hydrogenkloridgass. Etter ca. 48 timers kondensasjonsvarighet ved 5-10°C
fjernes med vannstrålepumpe ved værelsetemperatur vann og saltsyre. Deretter økes badtemperaturen langsomt til 100°C ved et vakuum på 0,1 torr. Etterat alt ikke omsatt 2-metyl-4-tert.butylfenol er gått over, utløses de ennå tilstedeværende forurensninger med toluen.
Utbytter: 127 g (28% referert til anvendt aceteddikester).
Smp. 162°C.

funnet: C 77,8% H 8,9%
beregnet: C 76,6% H 9,2%
Det' forholdsvis lille utbytte er i dette tilfelle sannsynligvis sterisk betinget.
Eksempel 7.
3, 3- bis( 4- hydroksy- 3- tert. butyl- fenyl) butansyre- benzylester.
I reaksjonskolben blandes 450 g o-t.butylfenol (3 mol), 192 g aceteddiksyrebenzylester (1 mol) og 0,98 g etylmerkaptan og kondenseres i nærvær av gassformet hydrogenklorid i 48 timer ved 10°C. Deretter fjernes saltsyren ved ca. 15°C ved hjelp av vannstrålepumpe ved 10 torr, og deretter økes badtemperaturen langsomt til 190°C og ved 5 torr avdestilleres resten av o-tert.-butyl-fenol. Som residuum blir det tilbake en sprø, brunfarget harpiks. Dette råprodukt oppløses i toluen, avfarges med blekjord og utfelles etter frafiltrering av blekjorden med heksan.
Utbytte: 394 g (83% referert til anvendt aceteddiksyreester).

Eksempel 8.
3, 3- bis-( 4- hydroksy- 3 , 5- dimetyl- f enyDbutansyre- benzylester.
183 g 2,6-dimetylfenol (1,5 mol), 96 g aceteddiksyre-, benzylester (0,5 mol,) og 0,5 g etylmerkaptan oppløses i 100 ml anisol og kondenseres ved 10°C i nærvær av hydrogenkloridgass 48 timer. Saltsyren fjernes med vannstrålepumpe, oppløsnings-midlet og 2,6-dimetylfenol med oljepumpe ved ca. 1 torr (bad-temperatur. økende til 190°C). Det harpiksaktige residuum omkrystalliseres fra toluen.
Utbytte: 138 g (66% referert til anvendt aceteddiksyreester).

Claims (1)
- Fremgangsmåte til fremstilling av kondensasjonsprodukter av fenoler med den generelle formel Iog .aceteddiksyreestere med den generelle formel II hvor R.^ og R2 betyr hydrogenatomer, like eller forskjellige alkyl-rester med 1 til 4 karbonatomer, R^ betyr en alkylrest med 1 til 31 karbonatomer, en allylrest, en cykloheksyl, aryl- eller aralkylrest, karakterisert ved at kondensasjonen gjennom-føres i nærvær av gassformet hydrogenklorid ved en temperatur fra -10 til 15°C og i nærvær av etylmerkaptan i mengder fra 0,05 til 0,5 vektprosent, referert til anvendt aceteddiksyreester.
