Description

Elektroder for galvaniske elementer, spesielt elektriske batterier.
Den foreliggende oppfinnelse angår elektroder for galvaniske elementer og
spesielt elektriske batterier som består av flere ved hjelp av vanntette tverrforbindelser forbundne i avstand fra hinannen anordnede vertikale stavledere, hvor hver enkelt stavleder er omgitt med aktiv masse og med en omkring denne liggende rør-formig omhylling av ikke ledende materiale.
Slike rørformige omhyllinger om den
aktive masse består i alminnelighet på kjent måte av hårdgummi- eller kunst-stoffrør som er forsynt med spalter lodd-rett på sin akse. Disse rør har utvilsomt en viss motstandsevne mot den aktive masses betydelige bestrebelser på å utvide seg i forløpet av det elektriske batteris behandling.
Deres ulemper består i det vesentlige
deri at de tilbakestående steg mellom spal-tene dekker elektrolytten svært meget og også forhøyer dan indre motstand mot strømmen i betydelig grad. Etter kjente forslag har man forsøkt å unngå denne ulempe derved at man i stedet for det fas-te hårdgummi- resp. kunststoff anvender porøse omhyllinger av egnede stoffer. Ek-sempelvis har man anvendt mikroporøse hårdgummirør, likeledes vev eller matter av glassull eller kunststoffiber. Alle disse forsøk førte ikke frem fordi stabiliteten og styrken mot den aktive masses uunngåe-lige utvidelse i forløpet av den elektriske behandling ikke var tilstrekkelig.
For å motvirke denne mangel har man
også foreslått å trekke et perforert rør av kunststoff over denne omhylling, for å kunne by tilstrekkelig motstand mot den
aktive masses trykk. Men herved opptrer den samme ulempe som ved de spaltede rør av hårdgummi resp. kunststoff, nem-lig at de mellom åpningene beliggende fas-te deler dekker massen.
Oppfinnelsens formål er å øke fibrenes styrke slik at de kan motstå massens trykk. Det anvendes herunder på i og for seg kjent måte glassfibre som har en diameter på under 10 \ i. Det er kjent at glassfibre som har ennu mindre diameter har en meget stor styrke, som endog er større enn de beste stålsorters. Anvendelsen av slike tynne glassfibre ville ikke støte på vanskeligheter hvis det ikke var et annet problem som var knyttet sammen med dem. Overflaten av slike glassfibre økes ettersom fibrenes diameter nedsettes. Med økningen av overflaten blir angrepet fra elektrolytten og oksydasjonsvirkningen av det surstoff som opptrer in statu nascendi i den aktive masse særlig sterk. De tynne glassfibre kan derfor bare anvendes når glasset har en kjemisk sammensetning som motstår disse angrep på aller beste måte. I henhold til oppfinnelsen har derfor glassfibrene følgende kjemiske sammensetning:
Forsøk med elektrodeplater som ble fremstilt under anvendelse av oppfinnelsen ga en ca. 50 pst. større strømmengde
enn ved elektroder av vanlig art med slis-sede hardgummirør, og omhyllingen hadde
slik styrke ved lengre tids drift at den ved
1000 utladninger, til tross for mindre
veggtykkelse enn ved de hittil vanlige slis-sede rør av hårdgummi- eller kunststoff,
motsto massens trykk uten at det inn-trådte noen utbøyninger og avbrekninger
som følge av slitasje på glassfibrene.

  1. Elektrode for galvaniske elementer, særlig elektriske batterier, som har en fler-het av ved vannrette tverrforbindelser forbundne i avstand fra hverandre anordne-
    de vertikale staver av ledende materiale, som hver enkelt er omgitt med aktiv masse og med en utenfor denne liggende, for elektrolytten gjennomtrengelig rørformig omhylling av glassfibre, hvilke enkelte glassfibre har en diameter på under 10 ji, karakterisert ved at glassfibrene har føl-gende kjemiske sammensetning:
