Description
Korte aanduiding: Uitzetbare dragerballon voor een stentsamenstel.
De uitvinding heeft betrekking op een uitzetbare dragerballon voor een stentsamenstel met een met onder invloed van straling uithardend materiaal gevulde, de ballon omsluitende, uitzetbare huls en een tot binnen de ballon uitstekende straling geleidende optische vezel.
Een dergelijke dragerballon en het daarmee samenwerkend stentsamenstel zijn beschreven in EP-A-0 521 573 en EP-A-0 617 930, beide t.n.v. aanvraagster.
Bij gebruik van dit op zich bekende stentsamenstel wordt de met het distale einde van een geschikte katheter verbonden, nog opgerolde ballon met de daaraan bevestigde, eveneens nog niet opgerolde stent door manipuleren van de katheter op de gewenste plaats in een lichaamsvat gebracht waarna door uitzetten van de ballon door het via de katheter daaraan toevoeren van een medium onder druk de stent in de gewenste vorm wordt gebracht en het uithardend materiaal onder invloed van straling (UV- of laserstraling) toegevoerd via de door de katheter gaande optische vezel en aan het einde van deze vezel uittredend, tot uitharden wordt gebracht.
De uit de optische vezel uittredende straling wordt grotendeels geabsorbeerd door het uithardend materiaal in de stent en kan zodoende het weefsel of bloed van de behandelde patiënt niet bereiken. Uit het vooreinde van de ballon kan echter nog straling uittreden die het weefsel of bloed kan bereiken.
De uitvinding berust op het inzicht dat het zeer gewenst is dat ook deze straling wordt tegengehouden. Hiertoe wordt volgens de uitvinding voorgesteld dat althans het vooreinde van de ballon voor straling ondoorlatend materiaal draagt.
Op deze wijze wordt met zekerheid voorkomen dat enig weefsel of bloed van de patiënt aan straling wordt blootgesteld.
Bij voorkeur is het voor straling ondoorlatend materiaal stralingreflecterend.
Bij voorkeur bevindt het voor straling ondoorlatend materiaal zich binnen de ballon.
De uitvinding wordt toegelicht aan de hand van de tekening. De enkele Figuur daarvan toont in langsdoorsnede een bloedvat met daarin aangebracht het stentsamenstel volgens de uitvinding.
In de Figuur is met 2 aangegeven een bloedvat aangegeven waarin de langwerpige stent 4 is aangebracht. Deze stent is van de soort zoals beschreven in EP-A-0 521 593 en EP-A-0 617 930; zij bestaat in hoofdzaak uit een dubbelwandige huls 6 waarvan de ruimte tussen de wanden is gevuld met uithardend materiaal 8. De stent is op de juiste plaats gebracht en uitgezet door middel van een uitzetbare ballon 10 die zich bevindt aan het distale einde van een katheter 12. De katheter 12 neemt een optische vezel 14 op waarvan het distale einde 14a tot in de ballon uitsteekt; het nabije einde van de vezel 14 werkt samen met een (niet getekende) stralingsbron (b.v. een bron van UV straling of een laser) en de aan het distale einde 14a uittredende straling is bestemd het uithardingsproces van het in de stent aanwezig uithardend materiaal in te leiden en te versnellen.
De uit het zijoppervlak van de vezel uittredende straling 16 wordt geabsorbeerd door het uithardend materiaal in de stent en kan dus voor de patiënt geen gevaar opleveren. Teneinde te voorkomen dat uit het vooreinde 14b van de optische vezel uittredende straling 18 valt op weefsel of bloed van de patiënt is volgens de uitvinding binnen het vooreinde 20 van de ballon 10 een voor straling ondoorlatende afschermende bekleding 22 aangebracht. Bij voorkeur is deze bekleding stralingreflecterend zodat daarop vallende straling, schematisch aangegeven met 24, naar het uithardend materiaal in de stent wordt teruggereflecteerd.
Claims (3)
1. Uitzetbare dragerballon voor een stentsamenstel dat met een met onder invloed van straling uithardend materiaal gevulde, de ballon omsluitende, uitzetbare huls en een tot binnen de ballon uitstekende, straling geleidende optische vezel, met het kenmerk, dat althans het vooreinde van de ballon voor straling ondoorlatend materiaal draagt.
2. Ballon volgens conclusie 1, met het kenmerk, dat het voor straling ondoorlatend materiaal stralingreflecterend is.
3. Ballon volgens conclusies 1-2, met het kenmerk, dat het voor straling ondoorlatend materiaal zich binnen de ballon bevindt.
