Abstract

The invention provides an animal feed, in particular for pigs, which in addition to the customary constituents contains at least 0.5 wt%, in particular roughly 1.5 wt%, of finely ground shells. The finely ground shells have a particle size of preferably less than 250 μm. The animal feed has a beneficial effect on the health and the growth of farm animals kept indoors, in particular pigs. The invention further provides a method for improving and/or increasing the meat production of fat stock (animals for slaughter).

Description

DiervoederAnimal feed

The invention relates to a feed for farm animals, in particular for pigs, which feed contains, in addition to the usual constituents, calcium carbonate.

Animal feeds generally contain, in addition to proteins, fats and carbohydrates, various additives, such as vitamins, metals, phosphates and other salts, antibiotics, growth promoters and any other agents that promote the usefulness and / or health of the animal. It is also known to add to animals, such as pigs, calcium carbonate from chalk or from limestone.

It has now been found that an animal feed, in particular a pig's feed, with improved properties is obtained when this contains calcium carbonate originating from shells, in particular sea shells.

Preferably, the animal feed contains at least 0.5% by weight, more preferably 1-2% by weight, and in particular about 1.5% by weight, of finely ground shells. Finely ground shells are understood to mean shells that are finely ground to an average particle size of less than 500 µm, preferably less than 250 µm. The calcium carbonate content of the shells to be used should be at least 90 wt. %, in particular at least 95% by weight.

In general, the shells can be all types of shells, for example oyster shells. However, preference is given to seashells.

The animal feed according to the invention is particularly suitable for feeding pigs, and especially piglets. As a common ingredient, the pig food may contain, for example, tapioca, soy meal, corn, peas, molasses, wheat semolina, fodder fat, rice feed flour, barley, milk powder, fish meal, salt and linseed. The calcium carbonate from shells can be mixed with the other ingredients at any time during the preparation of the animal feed.

The feed thus obtained appears to lead to a faster growth of piglets, less mortality among piglets, an increased fertility in sows and a higher number of piglets per litter.

The invention also relates to a method for improving and / or increasing the quality of slaughter animals by administering calcium carbonate from shells to the living animals, preferably in an amount of 1-2% by weight relative to the animals. feed provided.
