Abstract

An animal lick comprises a substantially homogeneous admixture of glucose or other crystallizable sugar, e.g. sucrose and chalk, with or without other nutrients and/or prophylactic or therapeutic substances. The lick preferably incorporates 1 to 15% by weight on a dry weight basis of chalk having a particle size in the range 1 to 25 microns and comprised of the calcareous shells of Foramenifera which have been reduced in size without substantial destruction of the hollow characteristics thereof. The chalk is dispersed with agitation in the hot sugar liquor.
