Abstract

Window stay with a first arm (4) and a second arm (6), hingedly connected thereto the first arm in the collapsed position lying inside the second, the arms being both hingedly connected to a first and a second coupling element respectively, both the first (12) and the second (24) coupling element being provided with locking elements which are free of each other in the position of the window stay extending out from the window,but in the swung-aside position of the window stay lock the coupling element together.

The invention relates to a window stay, as described in the preamble of claim 1.

Although such a window stay, known per se from the Dutch patent 133703 and the German patent 1,708,425, both in the name of the applicant, already represents a considerable improvement compared to the classic window stay, which, when folded, is still disturbingly horizontal from the frame protruding inwards, this expander has the drawback that when great forces are exerted on the window from the outside, the expander can be forced, because the two arms thereof move away from each other, so that the window can be opened.

The object of the invention is to overcome this drawback and to provide an additional locking which, in the collapsed and turned away position of the window stay, provides an additional locking of the coupling pieces and thus of the two arms with respect to each other.

This object is achieved with the features as described in the characterizing clause of the main claim.

A preferred embodiment is described in claim 2, while a recess is preferably formed in the second arm for receiving the locking hook.

The enclosure of the locking hook in the turned-away position of the window extension 25 results in a very effective locking of the two arms, whereby the arm ends cannot move away from each other even when exerting great forces on the window.

The invention will be elucidated with reference to the drawing.

The window extension according to the invention, indicated in its entirety in the figures by the reference numeral 2, 20, consists in the usual manner of a first arm 4 and a second arm 6, which hinges via a first axis 8 standing transversely of the longitudinal direction with are connected. The first arm 4 is hingedly connected to a first coupling part 12 via a second shaft 10 parallel to the first shaft 8; this coupling part is carried about a first transverse axis 14 (which in practice will therefore be vertical), which is transverse to the first and second axis, supported by a first fixing part 16, which is fixed to the frame 20 with screws 18.

The second arm 6 is coupled via a second hinge axis 22, which is transverse to the axes 8 and 10, to a second coupling part 24, which is coupled via a hinge axis 26, which is in practice horizontal, parallel to the axes 8 and 10, with a second fastening part 28, which is fastened to the frame 32 with screws 30.

The second arm carries the operating handle 34, with which the window stay can be brought into the closed, semi-open and open position.

Thus far the window extension according to the invention corresponds to that which is known per se from, for example, Dutch patent 133703 and German patent 1,708 * 425 in the name of the applicant. The window extension 5 ter can be brought into the collapsed state, in which the arm 4 lies within the arm 6 - see figure 3 - and then by rotating in the direction of the arrow 36 about the axes, then both vertical and aligned 14 and 22 are brought into the position shown in figure 4, in which the window stay is parallel to the window and thus does not form a disturbing obstacle projecting into the space.

This known window stay is improved according to the invention in that the two arms are additionally locked in the folded-out position shown in Figure 4. This has been achieved in the following manner:

The substantially U-shaped first coupling part 12 consists (see figures 5 and 9) of the bottom 40 and the two upright walls 42 and 44 projecting therefrom. The wall 42 is partly cut away, while the wall 44 is about 60 ° to inside converted latch lip 46. The second coupling part 24 (see figures 6 and 9) is also substantially U-shaped with a bottom 50 and the end walls 52, 54 projecting therefrom. As in particular figure 8 shows, the wall 54 is L-shaped, so that an opening 56 is defined which, in the collapsed state of the window stay (Figure 3), is opposite the hook 46. The result of this construction is that when the window stay is moved from the position shown in Figure 3 to the position shown in Figure 4 in the drawn position, the hook 46 will fall behind the upright edge 58 of the leg 54a of the L-shaped wall 54, whereby the window stay is locked in the closed position, since the bottom edge 46a of the hook 46 abuts the top edge 54b '. of the leg 54b.

In order not to be hindered by the inwardly projecting hook 46, in the fully extended position of the window expander - partly drawn in figure 10, a recess 60 is formed at the end of the arm 4, which receiving this hook 46. This recess is visible in figure 10.

Claims (3)

Window extension, comprising a first arm (4) and a second arms (6) hingedly connected thereto via a first axis (8) transverse to its longitudinal direction, the first of which is in the collapsed state within the second, and wherein the first arm (4) is connected via a second axis (10) parallel to the first axis (8) to a first coupling part (12), which is connected via a first transverse axis (14) located transversely of the first and second axis supported by a first mounting part (16), while the second arm (16) is connected via a second transverse axis (22) to a second coupling part (24) which is via a third hinge axis (26) parallel to the first and second axis connected to the second fastening part (28), characterized in that both the first (12) and the second (24) coupling part are provided with locking elements which are free from each other in the position of the window stay projecting from the window, but in the turned-away position of the window stay the coupling parts mutually mutually lock. Window extension according to claim 1, characterized in that the first coupling part (12) is provided with a locking hook (46) projecting inwards from a side surface (44) thereof, which co-acts with a receiving opening (56) which is formed in the, in the collapsed, position of the window stay, opposite wall (54) of the second coupling part (24), all this such that in the position of the collapsed window stay turned against the window, the hook (46) through the edge (58) the receiving opening is exposed.
