Abstract

In the prepn. of milk of lime by mixing lime and water in >=1 mixing vessel determined amts. of water and ground quicklime are introduced and mixed in a reaction vessel in which the lime is slaked. The slaked lime is transferred continuously to a finishing vessel where it is mixed and the concn. adjusted by adding more water. The milk of lime obtained is selectively withdrawn from this vessel to use points and unused material is recycled back to the vessel. The milk of lime is used for treating water and aq. effluents; also for treating waste gases; also in the mfr. of citric acid, calcium phosphates and propylene oxide. The process gives a fully slaked prod. having a stable concn.
