Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain calcium sulfoaluminate without generating SO2 gas by reacting specified amorphous alumina hydrate with a Ca compound such as calcium oxide and calcining the reaction product.
CONSTITUTION: Amorphous alumina hydrate contg. sulfuric acid radicals is mixed and reacted with one or more kinds or Ca compounds such as CaO, Ca(OH)2 and CaCO3, and the reaction product is calcined. At this time, the mixing ratio of the Ca compounds to the hydrate is preferably adjusted to 0.5W3, the sulfuric acid radical content of the hydrate to 5W40wt%, and the calcining temp. to 1,000W1,700°C. The starting materials may be mixed in the form of powder, aqueous suspension or aqueous paste. Amorphous alumina hydrate obtd. by treating waste water discharged from a process of surface treating aluminum in a sulfuric acid-contg. bath is advantageously used as the starting material alumina hydrate.
