Abstract

Deep-drawing of hollow mouldings comprises deforming a piece of thermoplastics sheet, esp. of polyolefin, by placing it, heated but in solid state, over a mould; moving it relatively to a deforming member so as to impart the piece of sheet 1st deformation; generating a pressure gradient between inner and outer sides of the piece of sheet, using a gaseous pressure medium, so as to inflate the sheet and forcing it against the inner wall of the mould. The piece of thermoplastics shee is heated, before deformation, to 10-40 degrees C below the crystalline melting temp.. Used for mfr. of dishes, cups, containers, boxes, container covers etc..
