Abstract

The single or multi-field bridge (1) has a superstructure running with compression-resistant effect from abutment to abutment. It is supported by spaced transverse support walls on a series of tension cables running parallel to each other below the roadway. The ends f the tension cables (4) are anchored only to foundations (2) in the ground, and the transverse support walls are fixed to the cables so as to be secured against axial displacement. Paired support walls may be brought together in a V shape above their cable attachment. Additional tension members may be fitted in the pier area (5) spanning the joint between two superstructure components. Wide spans can be combined with low structural height.
