Abstract

A machine for injecting a compacted cylindrical tobacco was into a cigarette paper tube comprises a bell-crank operating handle pivoted on a casing and with its inner arm secured by a single link to a tobacco compacting member. An elongate spoon slides in the casing from a tobacco receiving to an extended position to inject a wad into a tube on an aligned nipple outside the casing. The spoon has a handle extending outside the casing for manual sliding,a nd lever holds the tube on the nipple during insertion, a spring holding the lever in contact with the nipple when the handle is in compacting position. The link contacts a stud on the holding lever an dpivots it out of contact with the nipple when the handle is in the tobacco receiving position. The member is pref. of nylon. The arrangement minimises the number of moving parts and produces cigarettes of high consistent quality.
