[Class 130] In an appliance comprising a chamber 19 filled with tobacco from a funnel 3 through a filling slot, a rammer 12 adapted to be rotated and moved axially of the chamber, and an. integral trough-shaped member 14 projecting from the front end of the rammer, the member 14 is provided with a cutting-edge for severing any tobacco shreds projecting from the funnel 3 into the chamber 19 when the member 14 is turned to close the filling slot. As shown, the rammer 12 is provided with a handle 13 normally hold between the head 8 of a slotted guide member 6 and the head 9 of a rod 10 pivoted at 11 on the base 1. When the chamber 19 has been filled with tobacco from the funnel 3, the rammer 12 is turned by the handle 13 so that the member 14 closes the chamber 19, and is then pushed axially to expel the tobacco from the chamber 19 into a cigarette wrapper 23 on the spoon 16, the handle 13 moving along a slot 7 in the guide 6. Barbs or teeth 15 in the member 14 ensure uniform filling of the cigarette.
