Abstract

1,043,267. Feeding cigarettes. A. SCHMERMUND. Oct. 14, 1964 [Oct. 23, 1963], No. 41801/63. Heading B8A. A block of cigarettes drops from hopper 12 into distributer 14 and is then pushed to position 13 by pusher 11 carried by slides 22 which move along rods 23 carried by frame 24 and operated by lever 28 influenced by a cam. Frame 24 also carries the guide 15 and is pivoted at 25 and the pivotal movement is caused by lever 33 operated through followers 37 and 38 by cams 41 and 42 (not shown). Operation.-As the cams rotate, slides 22 move forward along rods 23 so that pusher 11 moves horizontally to push the block of cigarettes through the now stationary guide 15 to position 13. When pusher 11 reaches the end of its forward movement lever 33 operates to cause frame 24 to pivot about 25. Thus both pusher 11 and guide 15 move downwards. The pusher 11 then moves backwards along rod 23 operated by lever 28 being in its lowered position and when it reaches the end of its backward movement frame 24 is caused to pivot again so that both pusher 11 and guide 15 are raised to the original position as shown to complete the cycle of movement. Second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown).- Two pushers 111 and 211 are shown which are caused to move along a rod 123 by lever 173 operated through lever 170 by crank 160 operated by disc 158. Likewise frame 124 is pivoted at 125 and is caused to pivot therearound by lever 168 operated via shaft 157 by cams 137, 138. In this way frame 124 and pushers 111 and 211 operate as before. In addition, the cigarette guides 153 and 253 are carried by member 115 which is carried by sleeves 162 on rods 161 and is caused to move forward as the cigarettes move forward to assist in guiding the cigarettes, being operated via lever 182 from cams 174, 175. Since pushers 111 and 211, and guides 153, 253 are all carried by the pivoting frame 124 they all perform a cyclic movement.
