Abstract

1440930 Packaging cigarettes A SCHMER MUND 17 Dec 1973 [11 Jan 1973] 1551/73 Addition to 1440923 Heading B8C In a machine of the type described in the parent Specification 1,440,923 wherein cigarette blocks are successively loaded into the cells 20 of a first stepwise rotatable member I at one station and transferred at another station into the wrapper-holding cells 21 of a second stepwise rotatable member II, which is rotated about an axis parallel to that of the first member successively through various stations to wrap the block in a first wrapper, guide means 16 are arranged at the transfer station and define a guide channel between two aligned cells 20 and 21 through which the cigarette block is pushed on axial displacement of reciprocable pusher 13 through the cell and along the channel. The guide means comprises a rigid element 509 and outwardly yieldable resilient elements 501, 502, 503 and 504 defining a rectangular cross-section guide-channel having a lengthwise extending side slot 515 to accommodate the reciprocable movement of the pusher arm 516. The guide means itself is reciprocable and as shown enters the mouth of the cell and/or wrapper into which the block is transferred. The rigid element 509, Fig. 6 (not shown), may act as a folding guide. The pusher is drivingly coupled with drive of the rotating members so to be forwardly displaced when the members are stationary and retracted when the rotating member I is being indexed to bring the next cell to the transfer station.
