Abstract
Synthetic films are deformed by raising their temp. to a point below that at which they deform, and drawing them into a heated mould. The deformed, heated film is then placed in a cold mould. The heated mould is smaller than the dimensions required for the finished moulded prod. The cold mould has the final desired shape and the heated, deformed film is drawn into the cold mould. The drawing of the film is effected by vacuum. The film is pref. at a temp. below that at which it deforms and the surfaces around the mould cavity which come into contact with the film are heated. Method overcomes the shortcomings of existing machines in which the corners and edges of the mouldings are stretched more intensively than the rest. Weak places are thus avoided. The containers have a uniform thickness, and the total strength of the film can be reduced, since its temp. is held below deformation point until it comes into contact with the mould cavity wall.
