Abstract

A covered foam article is formed by introducing an air proof covering sheet into a female mould having an inwardly extending lip around its mouth, and clamping the edge of the sheet pref. with a frame and clips against the lip. A suction is then applied through e.g. apertures in the mould to deform the sheet so that it lies against the wall of mould and a cover positioned by e.g. a ram over the mould finally plastic foam is injected through e.g. nozzles in the cover into the mould. The method is used for moulding seats. The covering sheet completely covers the moulded article and is not mis-shapen or deformed. Pref. the cover is dish shaped and extends into the female mould. Pref. the elasticity of the covering sheet in the longitudinal direction is >=50% greater than in the transverse direction.
