Abstract

The air valve is for fitting to a pipe, particularly a drain, in which any partial vacuum must be prevented by the admission of ambient air, and has a movable annular component of elastomer material. The pressure in a valve chamber connected via an opening in the centre of the component to the pipe acts against ne side of the component, while th other side shuts off the inlet from the ambient air when against the seat, and atmospheric pressure acts in opposition to a force presing the component against the seat. The component is a washer (10) protruding from a hub (7) with a hole in it, secured to its inner edge, and slides axially on a guide (13). The seat comprises two concentric rings (1, 3) forming the inlet (6) for the ambient air. On the underside of the hub is a device (15) deflecting air sucket in axially along the pipe.
