Abstract

The gantry crane has one or more crabs travelling along it under the action of a winch drum in a stationary mounting and round which ropes are reeved in opposite directions and attached to opposite ends of the crab. A hoist rope with grad etc. is reeved round a pulley on the crab and one movable in the direction of the crab to hoist winch in a fixed mounting, so as to form two runs of rope parallel to the crab travel direction. The movable trolley is mounted at one end of an auxiliary unit, at whose other end is a further pulley round which a rope is reeved from a fixed point to the crab travel drum. Thus movement of the crab results in movement of the auxiliary unit at helf its speed, and the load is moved horizontally when the hoist winch is stopped.
