Abstract

The system adjusts the ratio of an infinitely-variable transmission used in a motor vehicle, this being determined by the gas pressure in the engine inlet manifold, which pressure is transmitted to a control chamber. With pressure in the manifold above a set value, the pressure signal transmitted to the chamber is at the same level as that in the manifold. With it below this value, the pressure signal is the same as the set value. The set value can be roughly 0.7 atmospheres, and the gas flowing to and from the chamber can be throttled to different degrees. Atmospheric pressure can be supplied to the chamber whenever the accelerator is pressed right down.
