Abstract
The shot is manufactured by adding Si to an initial Fe-Ni melt and pouring the melt into water. The shot is used to produce Fe-Ni coatings. It flows well and has a high apparent density. It is also homogeneous chemically as well as structurally. The Si pref. added to the alloy melt as ferrosilicon. The Si content of the shot is pref. 0.1-0.5%. C may additionally be added to the shot. The Ni content is 20-90%. The shot may contain Mn but only in small amts. Pref. the shot is practically spherical and has an apparent density of 4-5; its average dia. is greater than the mesh size of the anodic baskets used in the electrodeposition.
