Abstract

A materials testing probe, esp. for thickness testing, using ultrasonics, having three elements separated by sound absorbent material, one being a pulse transmitting transducer, and the other two being receiving transducers, with the transmitting transducer located between the receiving transducers; the probe being coupled to the material under test through a liquid layer. The acoustic insulating layer of cork (14 -17) between the transducers project beyond the surface of the probe for a distance approx. equal to the thickness of the layer of coupling liquid so that the insulation is continuous nearly to the surface of the material under test.
