Abstract
A technique for setting a dead man on the sea bed to which a very heavy floating structure can be moored securely, uses a hollow vessel of steel plate with internal reinforcement to which a line such as a chain or hawser can be fixed; equipment to lower the vessel to the sea bed, and a conduit opening into the interior of the vessel, through which underwater hardening concrete an boulder ballast can be dumped to form a solid mass with the vessel and its reinforcement. The conduit is a tube of elastomeric material. It may be independent of the mooring line and supported by floats, or the tube may be assembled round the chain or hawser by welding together the two edges of a continuous length of material. Enables a mooring weight up to two hundred tons to be positioned in two or three days.
