Abstract

Gypsum mouldings, e.g. building blocks, are produced by (a) mixing moist uncalcined calcium sulphate dihydrate with 10-25 (18-22) esp. 20 wt.% cement, based on dry gypsum, the amount of moisture in the mixt. being 5-15 esp. 12 wt.%, (b) compressing the mixt, and (c) drying the mouldings under such conditions that no calcium sulphate hemihydrate is formed, the pressure used in step (b) being sufficient to give a processable moulding. Simple economical process with low energy requirements. Gives high quality prods. with good resistance to moisture, and good compression strength.
