Abstract

Document recognition machine which has a relief symbol with a characteristic pattern. It comprises a light source with a focussed monochromatic light beam. The document is displaced relative to the beam focus or vice versa, producing modulating signals for the light beam. The reflected modulated light beam is picked up in a circuit whose output is processed. The pick up unit consists of two light sensitive converters. The first converter picks up the stray light in the direction of the normal. The second converter picks up stray light at an angle to the normal. The axis of the second converter is on the other side of the normal to the incident beam.
