Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to read out the dislocation of a rotary shaft in high accuracy by converting the rotations of an input shaft into intermittent motions thereby to generate optical signals corresponding to the intermittent motions.
CONSTITUTION: One rotation of an input shaft 1, which can rotate continuously, in divided into two intermittent rotations 2 of 36 degrees. A signal generator 4, which is made integral with an output shaft 3, is equipped with a rotational plate 41 and a projecting and receiving unit 42 thereby to generate a busy signal. On the other hand, a rotational agnle is converted by means of density filters 51W54 into digital signals at 5. Those two signals are generated by introducing the light from a light source 6 through an optical guide 8 and are photoelectrically converted by a light receiving unit 7. The electric signals generated are fed to a comparator circuit 9 and processed so that the digital signals corresponding to the angular position of the input shaft 1 are generated.
