Abstract

Polluted water is mixed with a dispersing agent and allowed to settle in a large circular pond in which scrapers slowly rake solid deposits into a central sump for removal. Surface scum is drawn off and pumped away by a rotating skimmer assembly. Pre-treatment in an agitated flocculation chamber may also be used. The device operates automatically, is not prone to convection currents in the pond and may be stopped and restarted at will with affecting the efficiency of clarification.
