Abstract

The stud bolt (10) is of the type having a shank or unthreaded portion (14) and a portion (12) provided with a rolled screw thread (18) whose cross-section is a polygon with an add number of curved sides and radiused corners, the threaded portion tapering to a smaller diameter over the last part of its forward length (15). The shank also has a polygonal cross-section whose sides and corners are co-axial and parallel with those of the threaded portion, and can be clamped in a rotary chuck. Prior to the thread being rolled, the cross-section of the threaded portion is geometrically similar to that of the shank.
