Abstract

Articles consisting at least partially of (un)vulcanised copolymers of ethylene, and alpha-olefin and opt. =1 polyene (EPDM) rubbers) are bonded by a compsn. contg. (I) an elastomeric, thermoplastic block copolymer of type AB(A)n, (where A is a polymer block consisting mainly of alpha-methylstyrene and B is (hydrogenated) (un)branched polymer block from a conjugated diene; and n = 1-10) and (IIe a liquid, inert, organic diluent. Bonding is strong both initially and after ageing or exposure to increased temp. EPDM rubbers are bonded cheaply. EPDM rubbers may be bonded to one another or to metals, lacquer layers, PVC (opt. softened); PVC with high softener content is pref. give a layer of polymethyl methacrylate and/or chlorinated PVC, as protection against migration of softener. The EPDM may be as film, foamed film, profiled goods, threads or in other form.
