Abstract

Laminated packaging material consists of (I) an extruded film-forming plastic material, (II) a thicker layer of a material different from (I) (pref. metal (oil) and (II) a plastic film of a material different from (II) and whose surface in contact with (II) has been flame-treated or electronically treated. The matl. is produced by (a) preheating >=1 of (II) or (III) to promote mutual bonding of these layers, (b) heating (I) to promote thermal welding of the treated surface of (III) to (II), (c) extruding (I) in close contact with (II) between a pari of moving surfaces, and (d) simultaneously introducing (III) between the moving surfaces so that its treated surface closely contacts (II). These operations effect a thermally welded bond between (III) and (II) mainly as a result of the heat provided by (I), but also partly as a result of step (a). Layers (I) and (III) are pref. of a polyalkene. Successful bonding of very thin films to give flexible laminated with a good, resistance to moisture, gases and liqs. Physical properties of the original materials are not harmed.
