Abstract
Enzymatic composition consists of a complex of an enzyme and a polymer which is soluble in aqueous alkali, and has a linear or branched carbon chain carrying carboxyl groups distributed along its length, opt. together with opt. substd. hydrocarbyl groups, the carbon chain and/or the hydrocarbyl groups being opt. interrupted by hetero atoms, pref. O and the polymer having an average mol. wt. >=10,000. Used in detergent compositions, the enzymatic compositions have a high stability, so that a lower quantity can be used in the detergent compositions. The enzymatic compositions also have a good colour and odour. The polymer is pref. an acrylic acid/methacrylic acid copolymer, or an interpolymer of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or maleic acid with monomers such as styrene, ethylene or methyl vinyl ether. The polymer is esp. a maleic acid/styrene copolymer contg. maleic acid units and styrene units in a molar ratio of 3:2 to 2:3. The average mol. wt. of the polymer is pref. >20,000. The enzyme is pref. a protease which may be mixed with other enzymes such as amylase and/or lipase. The enzymatic composition may be reacted with a metallic ion which is reactive towards the free carboxyl groups, such as Al, Fe, Cr, or Zr. The composition is prepd. by contacting an aqueous soln. of the enzyme with the dissolved polymer.
