Abstract
Oral buccal cavity hygiene compositions containing enzymes. M3A. Comprise at least one polymer-enzyme product in which the enzyme is covalently bound and which is enzymatically-active under the pH conditions prevalent in the mouth, together with a solid, semi-solid or elastomeric vehicle or a fluid vehicle containing a suspension and/or antimicrobial agent. They are applied as dentrifices, rinsing or gargling liquids. The enzyme fragment, may be an acid, alkaline or neutral protease, an amylase, a lipase, a dextranase or a lytic enzyme. Pref. more than one enzyme is bound to the polymer, one of the enzymes being a neutral protease, for example the ratio between the activities of an alkaline and a neutral protease should not be more than 0.25-1.2:1. Suitable polymers are carboxylic acid or anhydride chains or units thereof separated by C1-C4 carbon chains which are part of a unit of at most 18 carbon atoms, for example copolymers of maleic anhydride with ethylene, styrene, vinyl methyl ether, vinyl acetate, divinyl ether or polymaleic anhydride or polyacrylic anhydride.
