Abstract
Flame retardant compn. for cellulosic textiles comprises a phosphine of formula : P(CH2OR)3 (where R is H or lower alkyl), and methylolated nitrogenous cellulose reactant e.g. mealmine, and opt. urea. The melamine is methylolated in situ by adding HCHO to an aqs. soln. of the compn. and at least partially reacting. There is no loss of textile strength or hand softness of treated textile.
