Abstract

The glass-ceramic has a surface compressive stress lay er containing an increased K ion concentration and a decreased Na ion concentration in comparison with the cone. The glass ceramic is at least 70% crystalline and the surface layer may be formed by ioin exchange with a K ion source at 700-800 degrees C for 4-16 hrs. The cone pref. contains 12-19% Na2O, 37-45% Al2O3 and 40-51% Al2O3 by weight.
