Abstract

Mineral fibre panels, in which the fibres are mainly oriented perpendicular to the surfaces of the panel, are produced continuously by (a) distributing the mineral fibres over a conveyor belt to form a fibrous mat, (b) spraying the fibres with a liquid, thermosetting binder, (c) folding the fibrous mat along fold lines perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of the fibrous mat, (d) compressing the parts of the fibrous mat between the fold lines with the flat sides directed towards each other and (e) curing the binder sprayed onto the fibres. The process provides mineral fibre panels with improved properties, especially an increased capacity for withdrawing loads with the provision of a special surface layer. The panels obtained have a smooth surface. The process produces the panels at a high rate on a continuous basis.
