Abstract

Bricks are made from a mixture of chalk, SiO2-rich sand and water and/or organic or inorganic fibres and steam hardening under 10-20 atm pressure 175-210 degrees C temp., by preparing a mixture of hydrated chalk and finely divided SiO2- containing components and much water by a wet, mechanical method until distinct increase in viscosity of the mixture is obtained, whilst also preparing a mixture by the dry method from hydrated lime and finely divided SiO2 containing constituents and coarse additives if required, then adding the first mixture to the second in an accurate ratio depending on required S.G. of the mouldings to be made, and mixing the mixes together. Specifically, the calcium oxide content of the wet and the dry mixes are resp. from 40-50 and l-20% by wt. Pref. from 0-50% by wt. of coarse material is added.
