Abstract
A moulded article is formed by compacting in a mould under a pressure of at least 100 p.s.i., a mix of dolomitic, calcium and/or magnesium hydrated lime and water and then causing at least the exposed surface of the moulded article to carbonate. Compacting may be aided by vibration. The mix may be moulded on a substrate of different compositions, e.g. one or more layers of dry semi-dry or wet mix of cement, plaster or plaster and lime mix. The contents of the mould may be compacted after the addition of each layer. Carbonation may be effected by exposure to an atmosphere comprising moist CO2, e.g. flue gases or by contact with aq. CO2. The article is preferably dried before transport.
