Abstract

Motor fuel additive is prepared by reacting (I) an oxidation product derived from a paraffinic lubricant oil with a neutralisation number of 55-80, and a saponification number of 100-200, with (II) an amide of formula R2-NH-CH2CH2CH2-NR'-CO-R (where R is the mono-unsaturated hydrocarbyl group of oleic acid, and R' and R2 are alternately hydrogen or C14-17 hydrocarbyl), the ratio I:II being 2-5:1. The additive assists in the prevention of deposits in the carburettor, particularly when exhaust gases from the crankcase zone of the motor are introduced into the air feed to the carburettor.
