Abstract

Continuous process for melting and purifying previously heated and reduced oxydic ores in agglomerated or finely divided form, continuously fed into the arc zone of an electric oven, consists of melting and purifying in separate inter-connected melt, melt-out, purifying and slag settling zones in a single oven. Specif. turbulence and circulation provide a continuous flow from melt, melt-out into purifying zone. Circulation of the flow ensures low metal loss by continuous settling out of metal shot, and by applying a counter flow for the slag, forcing it to flow over the metal in purifying zone to provide additional iron extraction.
