NATURAL AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY NON-HEADING CHINESE CABBAGE
SEED COATING AGENT AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present disclosure relates to the technical field of ag- riculture, in particular to a natural and environmentally friendly non-heading Chinese cabbage seed coating agent and a preparation method thereof.
BACKGROUND ART
Seed coating refers to the use of adhesives or film-forming agents to coat fungicides, insecticides, micro-fertilizers, plant growth regulators, fillers, warning colors, and non-seed materials on the surface of the seeds. It is a seed treatment technology that enables seeds to form a spherical shape or basically maintain the original shape, improves their stress resistance and disease resistance, accelerates seed germination, promotes seedling for- mation, increases yield, and improves product quality. Seed coat- ing is generally divided into seed coating and seed pelleting.
Seed coating technology refers to the use of film-forming agents or adhesives to coat insecticides, micro-fertilizers, plant hor- mones and other substances on the seed epidermis to form a uniform film. The weight of the coated seeds is increased slightly, but the volume and shape thereof do not change significantly. Seed coating technology is generally applicable to large and medium vegetable seeds, such as soybean, corn, cucumber, and the like.
Seed pelleting technology refers to the use of film-forming agents or adhesives to attach pesticides, micro-fertilizers, plant hor- mones and other substances to the surface of seeds through mechan- ical treatment, forming pelleted seeds with a smooth appearance, enlarged grain, and obvious changes in volume and weight. The technology is generally suitable for small, light and irregular vegetable seeds, such as carrot, tomato, radish, pepper, cabbage, and the like.
Non-heading Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa ssp. chinensis)
belongs to a subspecies of Brassica rapa of the genus Brassica of the family Brassicaceae, commonly known as Chinese cabbage, pak choi, and rape, is an important leafy vegetable native to China.
The non-heading Chinese cabbage plant is fresh and tender, nutri- tious, and loved by people, and it occupies an important position in vegetable planting and consumption in China. Non-heading Chi- nese cabbage is mostly cultivated by direct seeding. Small seed particles lead to large seeding quantity, low emergence rate, poor seedling quality, and other actual production problems. Therefore, improving seed vigor and seedling quality has a direct effect on the yield and quality of non-heading Chinese cabbage.
There have been a number of patent applications on vegetable seed coating technology in China. Chinese Patent Publication No.
CN108850025A discloses a vegetable seed coating agent and a prepa- ration method thereof; Chinese Patent Publication No. CN104478584A discloses a cruciferous vegetable seed coating agent and a prepa- ration method; Chinese Patent Publication No. CN101238767 disclos- es a method for pelleting and coating a cruciferous vegetable seed plant-derived pesticide; Chinese Patent Publication No.
CN102584482A discloses a pollution-free coating agent for cabbage seeds; Chinese Patent Publication No. CN102084741A discloses a method for processing green cabbage seeds. However, the above- mentioned seed coating methods are not well adapted to the coating of non-heading Chinese cabbage seeds. At present, there are few studies of the coating of non-heading Chinese cabbage seeds.
Therefore, it is necessary to propose a natural and environmental- ly friendly non-heading Chinese cabbage seed coating agent and a preparation method thereof.

Example 5 120 mg of matrine, 80 mg of ascorbic acid, 28.6 g of waxy corn starch (starch: water = 1:35), and 200 g of iron oxide yellow were weighed, dissolved in 1 L of distilled water, and fully stirred to dissolve them completely. 100 g of seeds were coated with 10 mL of the prepared coating agent. After natural air- drying, there was a bright yellow film outside the seeds, the sur- face was smooth and few seeds were bonded to each other.
Example 6 120 mg of matrine, 80 mg of ascorbic acid, 33.3 g of waxy corn starch (starch: water = 1:30), and 100 g of iron oxide yellow were weighed, dissolved in 1 L of distilled water, and fully stirred to dissolve them completely. 100 g of seeds were coated with 10 mL of the prepared coating agent. After natural air- drying, there was a dark yellow film outside the seeds, the sur- face was smooth and basically no seeds were bonded to each other.
Next, the non-heading Chinese cabbage seeds prepared by the method for preparing a natural and environmentally friendly non- heading Chinese cabbage seed coating agent provided by the present disclosure were used for germination test. 1. Seed germination test:
Seeds were transferred into the corresponding 20 mm Petri dishes, 50 seeds were put for each treatment group, 10 parallel experiments were set up in each group, and all seeds were culti- vated at room temperature. The seeds were watered every 12 h and the filter paper was kept moist. 2. Determination of germination indicators
Three germination indicators, germination potential, germina- tion percentage, and germination index, were measured. The calcu- lation method of each index is as follows:
Seed germination potential (%) = Number of germinated seeds at the initial stage (day 3)/Number of tested seeds * 100%.
Seed germination percentage (%) = Number of germinated seeds at the final stage (day 7)/Number of tested seeds * 100%.
Germination index (GI) = SGt/Dt.
Gt is the number of germinated seeds on different germination days (counting 7 days), and Dt is the number of corresponding ger- mination days. 3. Results and analysis
Considering their marketability, the treatment method of Ex- ample 4 with the best appearance effect was selected. After treat- ment according to Example 4, seed samples of B. rapa ssp. chinen- sis ‘Yellow Rose’ from six different origins were subjected to the germination test according to the method mentioned in Example 1, and the test results were recorded as shown in Tables 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Control group: Seed samples of B. rapa ssp. chinensis 'Yellow
Rose’ from six different origins were subjected to the germination test according to the method mentioned in Example 1, and the test results were recorded as shown in Tables 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

It can be seen from the above 6 tables that the germination potential, germination percentage and germination index are large-
ly improved after the seeds of B. rapa ssp. chinensis "Yellow
Rose' from six different origins are treated by the method of Ex- ample 4. After coating, the germination potentials of the six sam- ples reach at least 99.60%, and at the same time, the germination potentials of the other seeds reach 100% except for the germina- tion percentage of 99.80% in No. 2 seed sample. Compared with the control, the germination potentials of the six samples are in- creased by 7.60%, 9.40%, 6.205, 1.20%, 0.60%, and 1.00% succes- sively, the germination percentages are increased by 1.00%, 1.40%, 0.20%, 0.40%, 0%, and 0.20% successively, and the germination in- dexes are increased by 29.78, 33.65, 30.35, 28.21, 19.27, and 14.29 successively.
In conclusion, the present disclosure provides a natural and environmentally friendly non-heading Chinese cabbage seed coating agent and a preparation method thereof. Using waxy corn starch as a film-forming agent, the material is safe, environmentally friendly, edible, and low-cost. Matrine is used as an insecticide- fungicide, and the material is natural and environmentally friend- ly. Interaction of the matrine with the ascorbic acid at the screened concentration may effectively improve the vigor of the non-heading Chinese cabbage seeds, and insecticidal and fungicidal effects of the matrine may be more beneficial to seedling growth.
Iron oxide yellow, as a warning color, which belongs to a mineral pigment, is safe, environment-friendly, and not easy to fade. The natural and environmentally friendly non-heading Chinese cabbage seed coating agent and the preparation method thereof provided by present disclosure are environmentally friendly, pollution-free, and capable of effectively improving germination power of the non- heading Chinese cabbage seeds.
