Abstract
The present invention relates to a capsule for perfuming material provided with an improved closure arrangement. According to the invention, the capsule comprises a body and a cover both made of a substantially rigid material. The upper edge of the cover has a projecting tooth which co-operates with the groove of the cover that receives the upper edge for obtaining a coupling with interference fit along one or more portions of the groove, so as to prevent accidental opening of the capsule. In or der to allow coupling of the cover with the body during manufacturing, windows are formed in the cover at said one or more portions of the groove, so as to locally give a certain flexibility to the cover.
Description
NLP198328 "Capsule for perfuming material provided with an improved 5 closure arrangement"
DESCRIPTION
Technical Field 10
The present invention relates to a capsule for perfuming material, suitable for releasing a fragrance in the surrounding environment.
More particularly, the present invention relates 15 to a capsule for perfuming material provided with an improved closure arrangement.
Prior Art 20 Air fresheners are known which comprise a per fuming material and exploit an air flow passing through the perfuming material for spreading a corresponding fragrance in the surrounding environment.
In a first type of known air fresheners, the air 25 freshener exploits an externally generated air flow.
In a second type of known air fresheners, the air freshener is provided with its own means for generating an air flow which hits a perfuming material contained in a suitable support. 30 The perfuming material used for releasing the aforesaid fragrance can be provided in the form a porous or spongy element imbibed with a perfuming liquid or in the form of a plurality of beads impregnated with the perfuming liquid or in the form of a gel. 35 Said air fresheners may comprise a perforated capsule which is removably received in the air fresheners and which contains the perfuming material, while at the same time it lets the air flow used for hitting the perfuming material and for spreading its fragrance in the surrounding environment freely pass therethrough.
Advantageously, once the perfuming material is 5 exhausted, it is possible to replace the capsule only, without the need of completely replacing the air freshener .
In order to be easily filled with the desired perfuming material, the capsules are typically formed by 10 two separate pieces - i.e. a body and a cover - which can be assembled together after the perfuming material has been introduced.
In general, the materials that are commonly as perfuming materials are not food-grade, and in some cases 15 they may even be toxic if ingested.
It is therefore important that the capsules containing such materials cannot be inadvertently opened and that the material inside the capsules cannot be directly accessible so that it cannot be ingested. 20 It is evident that this precaution is especially important in the presence of children or disabled people with reduced cognitive abilities.
The main object of the present invention is therefore to provide a capsule for perfuming material pro-25 vided with an improved closure arrangement, which can prevent any accidental opening of the capsule.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a capsule for perfuming material which, in any case, has a simple structure and which can be manufactured 30 with limited manufacturing costs.
These and other objects are achieved by the capsule for perfuming material as claimed in the appended claims .
Summary of the Invention
Containers are known which comprise a hollow body, which is upwardly open and the side walls of which 5 are provided with a projecting upper edge, and a cover provided with a corresponding groove, into which the edge can be inserted and held.
In this kind of containers the cover is usually made of flexible material, so that it can be removed by 10 simple manual traction.
For this reason, they are not able to meet the purpose of the invention.
On the contrary, according to the invention, the capsule for perfuming material comprises a hollow body, 15 which is upwardly open and the side walls of which are provided with a projecting tooth at their upper edge, and a cover provided with a corresponding groove, into which the projecting tooth can be inserted with interference fit and held, wherein both the body and the cover are made of 20 a substantially rigid material.
Due to the fact that both the body and the cover are made of a substantially rigid material, when the projecting tooth provided in the body is coupled with interference fit inside the groove provided in the cover, they 25 cannot be easily or inadvertently separated.
In order to assemble the capsule during its manufacturing, the interference fit between the body and the cover of the capsule does not extend along its whole perimeter, but only at one or more portions thereof. 30 At the one or more portions, the cover is advan tageously provided with corresponding windows, so as to locally reduce the rigidity of the cover and allow the insertion of the projecting tooth provided on the upper edge of the body into the groove of the cover during the manu-35 facturing of the capsule.
When the projecting tooth is inserted and held with interference fit, the cover cannot be easily or accidentally removed by simple manual traction.
Preferably, the body and the cover of the cap-5 sule according to the invention have a plurality of portions at which the aforesaid interference fit takes place and most preferably the portions are uniformly distributed along the perimeter of the body and of the cover. 10 Brief Description of the Drawings
Features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the invention, given by way of 15 non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: - Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of a cap sule for perfuming material according to the present invention; 20 - Figure 2 is a top view of the body of the cap sule of Figure 1; - Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view along the line III-III of the body of Figure 2; - Figure 4 is a top view of the cover of the 25 capsule of Figure 1; - Figure 5 is a bottom view of the cover of Figure 4 ; - Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view along the line VI-VI of the cover of Figure 4. 30
Description of an Embodiment of the Invention
With reference to Figure 1, the present invention relates to a capsule for perfuming material, indicat-35 ed as a whole by reference numeral 1.
Said capsule 1 comprises a body 3 and a separate cover 5.
With reference also to Figures 2 and 3, the body 3 is hollow, upwardly open and provided with a bottom wall 3a, which can generally be of circular or polygonal shape, and with one or more side walls 3b. More particularly, in 5 the illustrated example the bottom wall 3a has a quadrilateral shape and the body 3 correspondingly comprises four side walls 3b.
At least a portion of the body 3 is provided with openings 7 for the passage of an air flow through the 10 perfuming material contained inside the body 3.
More particularly, in the illustrated example, the openings 7 are provided in the bottom wall 3a, while the side walls 3b are solid.
As clearly shown in Figures 2 and 3, ribs 9 may 15 be provided on the bottom wall 3a and along the side walls 3b of the body 3. These ribs 7 act as reinforcement. In addition, in case the perfuming material is provided in the form of beads, they have the function of preventing that the beads accumulate in a single portion of the cap-20 sule 1 and of facilitating, therefore, a homogeneous distribution of the beads inside the capsule, irrespective of the orientation of the capsule itself.
With reference also to Figures 4 and 5, the cover 5 is adapted to be fitted on the body 3 and it there-25 fore has a shape that substantially corresponds to the shape of the bottom wall 3a of the body. Consequently, in the illustrated example, the cover 5, like the bottom wall 3a of the body 3, also has a quadrilateral shape.
At least one portion of the cover 5 is provided 30 with openings 11 for allowing the passage of an air flow through the capsule 1, and in particular through the perfuming material contained in the body 3 of the capsule 1.
More particularly, in the illustrated example, the openings 11 are provided in the central portion of the 35 cover 5, while the peripheral part of the cover is solid.
As clearly shown in Figures 4 and 5, ribs 13 may be provided on the lower face 5a of the cover 5, which ribs have the same function as the ribs 9 provided on the bottom wall 3a and along the side walls 3b of the body 3.
According to the invention, the capsule 1 has an improved closure arrangement which prevents the accidental 5 and undesired separation of the cover 5 from the body 3.
More particularly, the capsule 1 has a closure arrangement that makes its manual opening, for example by a child, impossible.
For this purpose, both the body 3 and the cover 10 5 are made of a substantially rigid material, preferably a substantially rigid plastic material.
As can be seen in Figures 1 and 3, the side walls 3b of the body 3 have, at their upper edge, an outwardly projecting tooth 3c. 15 In the illustrated example, the outwardly pro jecting tooth 3c extends without interruptions along the whole perimeter of the body 3.
Alternatively, the outwardly projecting tooth 3c may extend only along one or more separate and distinct 20 portions - preferably at least two or more such portions -of the perimeter.
In this case, the separate and distinct portions of the perimeter would preferably have the same length and they would preferably be uniformly distributed along the 25 perimeter.
Correspondingly, as shown in Figure 1 and more clearly visible in Figure 6, the cover 5 comprises on its lower face 5a a pair of walls 15a, 15b that protrude downwards and extend substantially parallel to each other, so 30 as to define between them a groove 15c adapted to receive in its inside the upper edge of the side walls 3b and the outwardly projecting tooth 3c provided at the upper edge of the side walls.
The outer wall 15a of the walls defining the 35 groove 15c has, at its lower edge, an inwardly projecting tooth 15d extending along one or more separate and distinct portions of its length.
Preferably, the inwardly projecting tooth 15d extends along two or more such portions of the wall 15a and - most preferably - these portions have the same length and they are uniformly distributed along said wall. 5 More particularly, as can be seen in Figure 5, in the illustrated embodiment the inwardly projecting tooth 15d extends along eight portions which are uniformly distributed along the wall 15a of the cover 5.
When the body 3 is assembled to the cover 5 and 10 the upper edge of the side walls 3b of the body 3 is inserted inside the groove 15c, the outwardly projecting tooth 3c of the body 3 abuts against the inwardly projecting tooth 15d of the cover 5 and is held in position by the latter tooth in an extremely firm way. 15 In other words, thanks to the cooperation of the outwardly projecting tooth 3c of the body 3 and the inwardly projecting tooth 15d of the cover 5, a coupling with interference between the body and the cover is obtained, which prevents an accidental separation from each 20 other.
By manufacturing the body 3 and the cover 5 of a sufficiently rigid material and by suitably sizing the teeth 3c, 15d respectively provided on the body and on the cover, it is possible to prevent manual opening of the 25 capsule 1.
In order to nevertheless allow the coupling of the body 3 and the cover 5 during manufacturing it is necessary to be able to insert the outwardly projecting tooth 3c of the body 3 beyond the inwardly projecting tooth 15d 30 of the groove 15c of the cover 5.
For this purpose, windows 17 are provided in the cover 5 at the groove 15c in the vicinity of the portions of the wall 15a defining the groove 15c at which the inwardly projecting tooth 15d is provided. 35 More particularly, as can be seen in Figures 4 and 5, in the illustrated embodiment eight windows 17 are provided.
The windows 17 locally provide the cover 5 with a certain flexibility.
In this way, during manufacturing it is possible to exert - by using suitable machines - a sufficient ten-5 sile force for locally deforming the cover 5 and inserting the upper edge of the body 3 into the groove 15c of the cover 5. When such tensile force is released, the body 3 and the cover 5 are coupled with interference fit and the capsule 1 cannot be easily opened. 10 It is therefore evident that the invention al lows to achieve the object set forth above, as it provides a capsule for perfuming material provided with a closure arrangement that makes the capsule particularly safe, even in the presence of children or disabled people with re-15 duced cognitive abilities.
It is also evident that the embodiment that has been shown here in detail should not be considered in any way as limiting and many obvious variations within the reach of the person skilled in the art are possible with-20 out departing from the scope of protection as defined in the appended claims.
More particularly, the shape and size of the body 3 and the cover 5, the number, the shape and the arrangement of the openings 7, 11 provided in the body and 25 in the cover for the passage of an air flow, and the num ber and the arrangement of the portions along which the outwardly projecting tooth 3c of the upper edge of the body 3 and the inwardly projecting tooth 15d of the cover 5, respectively, extend can be chosen each time by the 30 person skilled in the art according to his/her specific needs .
Furthermore, in the shown embodiment, reference has been made to an outwardly projecting tooth 3c in the body 3 of the capsule and to an inwardly projecting tooth 35 15d in the outer wall 15a of the walls defining the groove 15c of the cover 5.
Although less advantageously, it would also be possible to provide an inwardly projecting tooth in the body of the capsule and an outwardly projecting tooth in the inner wall of the walls defining the groove of the 5 cover, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
