Description

BUILDING PANEL FOR PROVIDING A WALL TO A BUILDING
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to the field of wall panels for modular buildings.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Modular buildings are convenient as they provide a quick and efficient way of providing housing for goods, equipment and personnel. Though most types of building can be built using already available modules, some dedicated buildings require specific building modules.
OBJECT AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is preferred to dispose of a building panel for providing a wall to a building for housing a data centre and in particular for providing air to the building for cooling the data centre. A first aspect provides a building panel for providing a wall to a building comprising an air handling unit. The panel comprises a frame for holding modules of the building panel at least a first substantially contiguous wall panel as a first module of the building panel and at least a first subframe for holding at least one filter for filtering air to be provided to the air handling unit as a second module of the building panel. The modules of the building panel are provided next to one another within the frame such that the modules substantially cover the building panel.
Such panel provides protection to the data centre and also an opening for providing air to the building to enable cooling modules to cool air and provide said cooled air to the data centre.
An embodiment of the building panel according to the first aspect comprises a second substantially contiguous wall panel as a third module of the wall panel and a second subframe for holding at least one filter for filtering air to be provided to the air handling unit as a fourth module of the building panel. The second wall panel isprovided in the building panel such that, in use, the second wall panel is located horizontally next to the first wall panel and the second subframe is provided in the building panel such that, in use, the second subframe is located horizontally next to the first subframe.
This provides a broader building panel, which results in less modules being required for building one and the same wall of a building for housing the data centre.
In a further embodiment of the building panel according to the first aspect, the frame comprises a top frame member provided at the top of the frame; a first side frame member provided at a first side of the frame; a second side frame member provided at a second side of the frame; and a bottom frame member provided at the bottom of the frame. The top frame member is provided parallel to the bottom frame member; the first side frame member is provided parallel to the second side frame member; and first ends of the side members are connected to opposite ends of the top member and second ends of the side members are connected to opposite ends of the bottom member, thus providing a perimeter of the building panel.
Such frame provides good reinforcement to the building panel.
In another embodiment of the building panel according to the first aspect, the first wall panel and the second wall panel are separated from the first subframe and the second subframe by a horizontal frame member; and the first wall panel and the first subframe are separated from the second wall panel and the second subframe by a vertical frame member.
In yet a further embodiment of the first aspect, the first side frame member comprises a first extendable side frame member for extending the first site frame member beyond the top frame member; and the second side frame member comprises a second extendable side frame member for extending the second site frame member beyond the top frame member.
This embodiment provides additional flexibility by providing an extendable - and preferably adjustable - extension member, allowing flexibility with respect to the height of the building panel. In this way, one type of building panel can be used for multiple heights of a wall.
In yet another embodiment of the building panel according to the first aspect, the first subframe is arranged for receiving at least one filter.
Data centres comprise delicate equipment. Therefore, it is advantageous that air used for cooling such data centres is properly filtered.
In yet a further embodiment of the first aspect, the first subframe comprises a rim perpendicular provided at a perimeter of the subframe and perpendicular to the building panel for enhancing sealing between at least one filter provided in the subframe and the building panel.
This embodiment provides additional sealing between filters and the frame. A second aspect provides a building comprising a building panel according to any of the preceding claims for providing a barrier between a first space located in the building and a second space, the room comprising the air handling unit.
