Abstract

An internal combustion engine is provided in which a cam chain drive sprocket is provided on a camshaft, one end part of a cam chain tensioner guide is pivotably and axially supported on a crankcase via a support shaft, and a partition wall member separating an inner chain chamber formed within the crankcase so as to house a cam chain drive sprocket from a generator chamber is mounted on the crankcase, wherein a support shaft (59) is disposed on an outside of the partition wall member (66) when viewed in a direction along the axis of a crankshaft (13), and is inserted through and supported on the crankcase (14) from an outside of the crankcase (14) in the direction along the axis of the crankshaft (13). This enables the partition wall member separating the inner chain chamber from the generator chamber to be made small.
