IN AN IMPACT ABSORBING STRUCTURE OF A STEERING COLUMN(1), ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION,IN ORDER TO FIX THE STEERING COLUMN (1) TO A VEHICLE BODY SIDE BRACKET (12) FROM THE UNDER SIDE, A RAIL-SHAPED GUIDE MEMBER(20) IS FORMED SO AS TO CONTINUE TO THE VEHICLE REAR SIDE END PORTION OF A COLUMN SIDE BRACKET(18). THE COLUMN SIDE BRACKET (18) IS PROTRUSIVELY PROVIDED AT THE UNDER PORTION OF THE STEERING COLUMN (1) AND THE GUIDE MEMBER (20) EXTENDS IN THE BACKWARD DIRECTION OF THE VEHICLE AT AN ALMOST SAME HEIGHT AS THAT OF THE COLUMN SIDE BRACKET(18). AFTER THE COLUMN SIDE BRACKET(18) PASSES THE VEHICLE BODY SIDE BRACKET(12), THE GUIDE PORTION (20) GUIDES THE STEERING COLUMN 1 SO THAT THE STEERING COLUMN (1) HAVING MOVED FROM THE VEHICLE BODY SIDE BRACKET (12) IS DIRECTED IN THE AXIAL DIRECTION WHILE MAINTAINING ITS POSTURE AS IT IS.FIG.4
