A TRIPPING DEVICE FOR AN OVERCURRENT INTERRUPTING DEVICE SUCH AS A LINE SAFETY SWITCH, COMPRISING A TRIPPING ARMATURE (11) ACTUATING A SWITCH LATCH (18), WHICH ARMATURE CAN BE ACTUATED BY A COIL (6) WHICH IS FLOWED THROUGH BY A CURRENT TO BE MONITORED, WITH THE TRIPPING ARMATURE (11) BEING HELD IN ITS IDLE POSITION BY A SPRING (12) AND AN ELECTROMAGNET (20) WHOSE COIL (7) IS FLOWED THROUGH BY THE CURRENT TO BE MONITORED OR BY A CURRENT PROPORTIONAL TO THE CURRENT TO BE MEASURED, AND THE COIL (7) CAN BE SHORT-CIRCUITED ON REACHING A PREDETERMINED STRENGTH OF CURRENT.
