Abstract
Se proporcionan plantas de girasol, semillas capaces de formarlas, y un aceite vegetal endogeno derivado de tales semillas de girasol. Las plantas tienenla capacidad para producir un aceite vegetal endogeno en el que los niveles deácido palmítico y ácido oleico están proporcionados en una combinacion no típica vía control genético. La concentracion del ácido palmítico en el aceite endogeno constituye al menos 20 (por ejemplo, aproximadamente 20 a 45) por ciento en peso del contenido total de ácido grasos, y la concentracion del ácido oleico en el aceite constituye al menos 45 (por ejemplo, aproximadamente 45 a 65) por ciento en peso del contenido total de ácidos graso en el ausencia de hidrogenacion u otra modificacion física o química. Se ha encontrado que las plantas de la presente invencion pueden ser formadas a través de la conbinacion (como se describe) de determinantes genéticos que están presetes en el girasol Pervenets y el girasol H-55-9-2-1 o H-55-9-2-2. El aceite endogeno de la presente invencion es util particularmente, inter alia, en la produccion de margarina, o un equivalente de mantequilla de cocoa.
