Abstract
La invencion se refiere a un procedimiento para la oxidacion de p-xileno y metiléster de ácido p-toluílico con gases que contienen oxígeno en el procedimiento Witten-Hercules, para la obtencion de dimetiltereftalato en al menos dos etapas parciales dispuestas una después de la otra y en presencia de un catalizador. Se caracteriza porque en al menos una etapa rica en p-xileno se oxida una parte del pX, así como, dato el caso, productos de ciclo, con porciones oxidables de etapas siguientes del procedimiento DMT, en presencia de 5 a 30% en masa de metiléster de ácido p-toluílico, referido a la mezcla de reaccion en la etapa parcial, y/o en al menos otra etapa parcial rica en metiléster de ácido p-toluílico, se oxida metiléster de ácido p-toluílico y/o ácido p-toluílico, así como, dado el caso, productos de ciclo, en presencia de 2 a 30% en masa de p-xileno, referido a la suma de metiléster de ácido p-toluílico y ácido p-toluílico.
